How much does web design cost in Malaysia? Real numbers.
Short answer: RM500–RM15,000+, depending on who builds it and what you actually own afterwards. Here's the honest breakdown — including our own prices.
Web design price ranges in Malaysia (2026)
| Option | Typical price | What you get — and the catch |
|---|---|---|
| Solo freelancer | RM500 – RM1,500 | Can be great value if they're reliable. Risk: no process, no backup person, and ownership is often unclear. |
| Budget agency (us) | RM1,488 – RM4,988 | Fixed price, structured process, copywriting and SEO foundation included, full ownership. The sweet spot for most SMEs. |
| Corporate agency | RM8,000 – RM15,000+ | Custom design and strategy work. Worth it for large brands; overkill for a 10-page SME website. |
| Yearly-fee platform / directory | RM1,000 – RM1,500 every year | Low entry cost. Catch: you rent forever, and the website disappears when you stop paying. |
The 3-year math nobody shows you
| Yearly-fee platform | Fixed-price build (our Business package) | |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | RM1,200 | RM2,888 + ~RM350 domain & hosting |
| Year 2 | RM1,200 | ~RM350 |
| Year 3 | RM1,200 | ~RM350 |
| 3-year total | RM3,600 — own nothing | ~RM3,538 — own everything |
Same money. Completely different outcome. And from year four onward, the fixed-price route costs a fraction while the platform keeps charging full rent.
What actually affects the price
- Number of pages — a 5-page profile site vs a 15-page service catalogue.
- Ecommerce — payment gateways, shipping logic and product setup add real work. See ecommerce pricing.
- Copywriting — many quotes exclude it, then charge extra. Ours includes English copywriting in every package.
- SEO foundation — schema, page structure, Search Console. Skipping it makes the site invisible; we build it in.

This is really about you — not websites
You've collected three quotes and trust none of them.
You're the decision-maker doing homework the right way — multiple quotes, notes, questions. You're not cheap; you're careful. You've been in business long enough to know the expensive mistake is rarely the price on the paper.
→Every quote hides a different thing.
One is suspiciously cheap and vague about ownership. One is triple the others for reasons nobody can explain. One says “from RM999” and you already know the final number won't start with 9. You don't fear spending — you fear finding out what you actually bought, three months later.
→Compare against a public price list.
Our packages, inclusions, add-on prices and payment terms are published on this page — the same numbers that appear on the quote with your name on it. Use them as your baseline for judging everyone else, including us.
Get my itemised quoteWhere every ringgit in a web design quote actually goes
A website's price is five ingredients. Once you can see the ingredients, you can read any quote in Malaysia — and spot exactly what a cheap one is leaving out:
| Ingredient | Share of a proper build | What it covers | What "cheap" cuts here |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design | ~25% | Layout decisions, visual hierarchy, mobile experience, brand consistency | Template with your logo dropped in, desktop-only thinking |
| Development | ~30% | Building it properly: clean structure, speed, security hardening, no bloated page builders | Slow themes, abandoned plugins, sites that break on update |
| Copywriting | ~20% | The actual words — headlines, service descriptions, FAQs, written for your customers and Google | Cut entirely: "just send us your content" (you never do, project stalls for months) |
| SEO foundation | ~15% | Meta tags, schema markup, heading structure, Search Console — the difference between existing on Google and not | Skipped invisibly; you find out when you never rank for your own name's category |
| Project management | ~10% | Timeline discipline, revision coordination, launch QA | The "it's been 4 months and the freelancer stopped replying" tax |
Corporate agencies add a sixth ingredient — overhead (offices, account managers, pitch teams) — that can double the invoice without touching the first five. Our model deletes the sixth ingredient, not the recipe.
Add-ons, payment terms, and the fine print — published
Add-on pricing (fixed, same for every client)
| Add-on | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Additional page beyond package | RM150/page | Includes copywriting and SEO structure, same standard |
| Logo design | RM300 | 3 concepts, 2 revision rounds, all source files yours |
| Extra revision round | RM200 | Rarely needed — 2 consolidated rounds are included |
| Rush delivery (7 days) | +20% of package | Subject to schedule; the quality gates don't compress |
| Migration credit | –RM300 | Show any yearly-platform renewal invoice; we deduct it from any package |
Payment schedule
50% deposit to start — this books your slot and starts the 10-day clock. Balance on launch day, after you've seen the finished site live on your domain. Quotes are valid 30 days. No deposits before you've seen the itemised quote; no balance before you've seen the site. The sequencing is deliberate: at every payment point, you've already received more than you've paid for.
The two recurring costs that are real (and should be yours)
Domain: RM50–80/year for .com or .com.my. Hosting: RM200–400/year for hosting that's actually fast. We purchase and manage both for you under our accounts — one less pile of logins and renewal emails in your life. Two clauses make managed different from captive: costs are itemised at real prices on your invoice, with no hidden markup; and everything transfers to your own accounts anytime you ask, free. If a quote you're comparing bundles "free hosting", ask what happens to the website when the relationship ends — the answer is the real price. Ours is in writing: nothing happens; you take it all.
Seven lines in any web design quote that should make you pause
- "Website design: RM X" with no page count. Scope-free pricing is a blank cheque you're co-signing. Insist on the page list.
- No mention of copywriting. It's excluded. Your project will stall for months waiting for words you were never going to write, then cost extra.
- "Free domain included." Ask: registered under whose name? A "free" domain in the vendor's name is the most expensive domain in Malaysia.
- Monthly "management" or "maintenance" fees that are mandatory. Legitimate maintenance is optional and cancellable. Mandatory ones are rent with better branding.
- No timeline commitment. "4–8 weeks depending" means the project ends when they feel like it. Ours says 10 working days, on the quote.
- "SEO included" with no specifics. Make them name it: meta tags? schema? Search Console setup? "SEO friendly" as an adjective costs them nothing to type.
- Payment: 100% upfront. The only leverage you have is sequencing. 50/50 with balance-on-launch means the vendor is motivated until the very last day.
Any vendor confident in their offer will pass this list easily — that's precisely how you tell. See also the 5-minute ownership checklist if you already have a website and aren't sure what you actually own.
Total cost of ownership: the math that changes the decision
The sticker price is one year of the story. Business owners compare 3-year totals on machinery and vehicles — websites deserve the same discipline:
| Route | Year 1 | Year 2 | Year 3 | 3-year total | What you own after |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Directory platform (largest player’s 2026 rate card, entry tier) | RM5,399 | RM2,400 renewal | RM2,400 renewal | RM10,199+ before SST & RM648/yr plugins | Nothing — a 20-product cap while you pay, zero when you stop |
| Cheap freelancer + neglect | RM800 | RM0 | RM1,500 (hack cleanup / rebuild) | ~RM2,300 | A site you're afraid to touch |
| Corporate agency | RM10,000+ | retainer | retainer | RM12,000–20,000 | A good site, expensively |
| Us: Business + Care Basic | RM2,888 + RM599* | ~RM1,200* + ~RM300 dom/host | ~RM1,200* + ~RM300 | ~RM6,688 | Everything — maintained, secure, yours |
*Care Basic + Starter SEO band — with Care Basic (RM599/yr) alone the total drops to ~RM3,487 over 3 years.
Two honest observations from this table. First: the directory platform — the option chosen precisely because it felt cheap — is more expensive over three years than owning outright, with nothing to show at the end. Second: the self-maintained row is genuinely the cheapest sound option, and we'll happily sell it to you; the care plan is a service, not a toll.
Why our quote doesn't change from JB to KL to Kota Kinabalu
Ask for quotes across Malaysia and you'll notice geography pricing: KL agencies charging KL rents into every invoice, the same brief priced 40% apart across state lines, "outstation" surcharges for businesses outside the Klang Valley. Our remote delivery model deletes that variable entirely — a 6-page Business build is RM2,888 whether you operate from Skudai, Subang or Sandakan, because the work is identical and no showroom lease is hiding inside the number. This matters most for businesses outside KL, who historically faced a bad menu: pay metropolitan prices from vendors who treat you as remote anyway, or settle for whoever happens to be nearby. Fixed national pricing means the decision runs on the only questions that should matter — is the work good, are the terms honest, do you own the result — with your postcode finally irrelevant to all three.
Pricing questions, answered straight
Why do some agencies charge RM10,000+ for the same thing?
Usually you're paying for their overheads — account managers, offices, pitch decks — or for genuinely custom development your business may not need. For most SMEs, a well-built WordPress site with proper SEO structure does the job at a fraction of the cost.
Is a RM500 freelancer website a bad idea?
Not always — but check three things before paying: who owns the domain, whether you get admin access, and what happens when they disappear. The cheapest websites usually cost the most when you have to rebuild them a year later.
Why is a yearly-fee platform more expensive than it looks?
RM1,000–1,500 per year sounds manageable — until you do the 3-year math above and realise you've paid more than a fixed-price build and still own nothing. Run the ownership checklist on your current site.
What payment terms do you offer?
50% deposit to start, balance on launch day. You approve the homepage design before we build the rest, so you're never paying blind. Quotes stay valid for 30 days.
Are there any recurring costs at all?
Two honest ones: your domain (~RM50–80/year, registered in your name) and hosting (~RM200–400/year, in your account). Our optional care plan from RM599/year handles updates and backups — cancel anytime.
